Shortly after we moved to Virginia there was an limited or traveling exhibit in Philadelphia, PA
that showed the inner workings of the human body. This isn't just any
exhibit. These are REAL human bodies that are posed cut-away to show you
the insides.
Recently
when going to Washington DC
for shopping and site-seeing we saw a sign announcing the exhibit. Not
believing that this was the real exhibit we went to investigate and found that
it was actually one of many traveling exhibits, this being a smaller one.
In any case, we ponied up the $26.50 per adult and proceeded in. The exhibit is beyond belief and almost unreal.
Personally, I am not a fan of dead or death.
Funerals kinda creep me out so I was unsure what I was going to think.
While looking at the exhibit I didn’t get the feeling of death, in fact
I didn’t really know what to think. Here
I was standing in front of a man who was looking at me, skin removed so I could
look at all his muscles and bones. Knowing
a little bit about the human body it was interesting to see it in real life, but
my overall feeling was that this isn’t real.
The most shocking piece was that of showing the skin as an
organ by itself. The skin looked
like leather and/or a suit you’d wear.
An amazing exhibit was that of the circulator system.
Somehow, it was explained, they were able to preserve all of the blood
vessels and capillaries while removing everything else.
The closest thing I can compare it to are the laser engraved paperweights
that you see with the exception that the “carving” was red vs. white.
Other interesting things were diseases, the spinal cord and
nerve endings, fetus’s from embryo through a few months.
In any case I would recommend attending this if it’s
ever in your area.
